Cats love stretching on their backs. But that doesn't necessarily mean they want a belly rub. Showing one's belly may be a sign of trust. Or it may be a warning that the cat is ready to defend herself with the very same sharp claws she holds poised in the air. We have only had one cat who truly likes to have her belly rubbed, as long as the rubbing is very slow and gentle. If your cat shows her belly, she may just want to hear you say what a wonderful cat she is.
